Initiative proposal on waste reports

Together with Noordzij (PvdA), Carla defended their initiative proposal on waste reports. She said it grew out of irritation and responsibility: neighbourhoods where few reports are made look quiet in the figures, but the rubbish is still there. She told how she became a mother in Zuidoost and wanted to teach her child to throw rubbish away properly, and how residents did want to report problems but did so by letter, on social media or by solving them together. She wants the city to reach people where they actually meet, such as WhatsApp groups, churches and mosques, and young people through TikTok and Snapchat; a clean city is not a favour for whoever complains loudest, but a right for everyone. Alderman Van Buren acknowledged that reporting and feedback to people who report do not yet work well enough and said the proposal helps. Two weeks later the council adopted the proposal unanimously. Carla also asked for quick clarity about wind turbines in Zuidoost, and closed by thanking the committee in which the first motion on Congo was announced (in Dutch).

Ombudsman on the Integrity Office

On three letters about the Ombudsman’s report on the Integrity Office, Carla asked the ombudsman whether the same patterns recur as in earlier studies of social unsafety and discrimination, whether media pressure and freedom-of-information requests affected the investigation, and why all three recommendations are needed. In her speech she said this is not about two sides arguing but about the safety of civil servants who dared to report. She named the four studies of this term (Verwey-Jonker, Muses, KIT and Clafis), which together show that reports often end up in a drawer. If a recommendation is not adopted, the executive must explain that to those civil servants (in Dutch).

Metro 53 and Zuidoost

Residents of Zuidoost spoke against shortening metro line 53. Carla asked the speakers what the council can still do before the transport authority decides on 9 December, what it means for pupils and school trips, what compensation is needed if the line is shortened anyway, and how the options differ. At question time she told the alderman that Zuidoost is often portrayed as a district that does not take part, while residents organised two petitions and several demonstrations for metro 53 in eight years. She asked how the alderman explains that all this engagement is not rewarded, and pointed out that the district itself had chosen a different option (in Dutch).
