Ombudsman report on the Integrity Office

The ombudsman’s report on the Integrity Office had been published that morning and its content was already being criticised. As group leader, Carla said the independence of the ombudsman must be safeguarded and that the people who took part in the investigation must continue to feel safe. She found it uncomfortable that the report was being discussed like this before everyone had read it properly, and asked for the conversation to take place in the group leaders’ meeting (in Dutch).

Route to Repair

On the executive’s response to the Route to Repair, Carla asked the researchers what is needed to make a multifunctional building of and for the Black community sustainable, and whether an annual community review could start before the elections. She asked the executive which points can be secured firmly enough to survive coalition negotiations, whether a percentage of the budget can be earmarked, and how ownership by descendants through entrepreneurship will be encouraged in practice. She pointed out how the legacy of slavery is visible everywhere, from music to diseases that are recognised less well on dark skin (in Dutch).

Vaccination rates by area

On the publication of vaccination rates by area, Carla complimented Alderman Scholtes: falling vaccination rates are also linked to trust in government, and this alderman made that connection. She called for that commitment to be kept, nationally too, and said that trust in government is tied to the quality of care in general: care must remain humane and become more humane (in Dutch).

Undocumented vocational students and young freelancers

Carla asked a speaker whether the platform, like a departing volunteer, will keep making room for people who want to take part in politics, including around the elections. On measures for undocumented vocational students she asked how the experiences of students and teachers will be included in the evaluation, and whether bottlenecks will be reported to the council this school year; the alderman announced that vocational colleges will join the covenant. On motion 108 on freelancing she pointed out that young people sometimes start as freelancers without a safety net out of financial need or because they are misled, and asked for cooperation with business organisations and role models from the neighbourhoods (in Dutch).
