Erotic centre: listening to residents and sex workers
Residents and sex workers were concerned about the location of a new erotic centre, first also in Zuidoost and later in Zuid. Carla made sure their letters were discussed in the council and, at the public hearing, kept asking what would actually work.
What Carla did
District committee
Before her council term, Carla addressed the Zuidoost district committee: the problems in the Red Light District remain unsolved after years, so do not bring them to Zuidoost, where sites such as Amstel III and Arena Poort are close to shelters, schools and families. She ended: “I am Carla Kabamba, number two for BIJ1.”
Debate
In an election debate at the OBA, Carla proposed a swap: the erotic centre on the Zuidas and OBA Next in Zuidoost. “That trade-off also shows that Amsterdam can now do something different from the past twenty, thirty years.”
Put on the agenda
At Carla’s request, the executive also had to send its reply to a residents’ letter on the erotic centre to the committee.
Put on the agenda
At her request, residents’ letters about the location were discussed in committee.
Committee
At the public hearing, Carla questioned sex workers, local residents and people from education.
Council
In the council she pointed out how often sex workers had reached out during the process.
Committee
On the participation plan, she asked for transparency for residents in Zuid and that commercial interests not outweigh theirs.
