Spotting young carers earlier

Young people receive information about caregiving and available support with their public health check-up at secondary school.

✓ Adopted unanimously

Why this motion

Some young people care for their parents, physically or financially, without knowing they are carers. As a result they often don’t get the right support.

After starting secondary school, every young person is invited by the GGD for a health check: an ideal moment to reach them.

What the council asks

The city council asks the mayor and aldermen to:

  1. 1Investigate whether a leaflet or letter can be added to the GGD invitation explaining what caregiving is and what support is available for young people.
