No older person on the streets

The city will investigate whether night shelter for older people should be expanded and how structural homelessness among older people can be reduced.

✓ Adopted

Why this motion

Ageing, rising housing costs and a shortage of senior housing mean more older people become or risk becoming homeless. Night shelter capacity for older people may not be enough.

Structural homelessness among older people calls for an integrated approach: prevention, guidance towards a stable home and cooperation with care and welfare organisations.

What the council asks

The city council asks the mayor and aldermen to:

  1. 1Investigate whether night shelter capacity for older people should and can be increased.
  2. 2Investigate which additional measures are needed to reduce structural homelessness among older people.
  3. 3With care and welfare organisations, investigate whether older people in shelters need better guidance towards stable housing.
  4. 4Report the results and possible next steps to the council before the end of 2025.
